McCallie Lacrosse Camps cover all aspects of team play, with emphasis on fundamental development and the mechanics of individual offense and defense. The camp offers individual skill sessions, a team skill session, and a team game each day.

 

Lacrosse FUNdamentals Camp: (Brand New Beginners) Co-Ed

 

  • Dates: TUESDAY May 30-Friday June 2
  • Times: 9:00AM-12:00 Noon (Campers end swimming at noon)
  • Drop off at Ridgedale Field, Pickup at McCallie Lake
  • Ages: Rising 2nd-6th; Co-Ed
  • Levels: Brand new up to 1 year of experience
  • Equipment needed: Stick, Towel and Bathing Suit, Sunscreen, Water Bottle
  • Camp provides: McCallie Lacrosse Camp Tee-shirt and Pinnie, McCallie Sports Camp Tee-shirt
  • Cost: $200 ($175 Early Bird Discount - Sign up before March 1st)

DESCRIPTION:

Boys will play fun games with caring and energetic counselors to learn the FUNdamentals of lacrosse: scooping, cradling, passing, catching, defense, and shooting. After a fun and sweaty morning session, boys will go to the McCallie lake for free swim before being picked up at noon. Boys should bring their own sticks, but pads will not be worn throughout the camp and we will only be using tennis balls to teach soft hands and prevent injuries.

 

 

 

Lacrosse Competition and Development: Boarding and Day Camp (Three Levels: Beginner/Int/Adv)

 

Lacrosse Day 2023 Dates: June 5 - 9
Grades: Rising 4th – 10th; Boys (PLEASE SEE INFORMATION BELOW ABOUT THE LEVELS)
Time: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Friday Pick Up time TBA, depending upon Division.
Lunch is provided and Early Drop Off (8AM) is available.   
Fee: $375 (Early Bird Discount $350 before March 1st)

Lacrosse Extended Day 2023 Dates: June 5 - 9
Grades: Rising 6th – 10th; Boys (PLEASE SEE INFORMATION BELOW ABOUT THE LEVELS)
Time: 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM (includes Dinner and Evening Game)
Friday Pick Up time TBA, depending upon Division.
Lunch is provided and Early Drop Off (8AM) is available.   
Fee: $475 (Early Bird Discount $450 before March 1st)

  • LEVELS: (PLEASE INDICATE YOUR CAMPER'S LEVEL DURING THE REGISTRATION PROCESS) 
    • Beginner Camp (Day Only): Rising 4th to 8th Grade
    • Intermediate Camp (Day, Extended Day, and Boarding): Rising 6th to 10th Grade
    • Advanced Camp (Day, Extended Day, and Boarding): Rising 7th to 10th Grade
  • LEVEL CRITERIA: (General guidelines, but there could be exceptions):
    • Beginner: Has played for at least one season, and is still learning the game. Focus here is on skill acquisition and learning foundational concepts.
    • Intermediate: Has played at least two seasons of elementary or middle school, or has played a season of high school lacrosse. Focus is on skill development, refining foundational concepts, and playing faster.
    • Advanced: Has significant experience. Is a leading player on his middle school or JV team, has some varsity experience, or will be competing for a varsity spot in the next season.
  • Equipment needed: Full equipment for their position, cleats, water bottle, bathing suit and towel, and packing list (only necessary for Boarding Campers)
  • Facilities: Air conditioned dorms and dining hall.  Turf Field. McCallie Lake, Gameroom and McCallie Sports and Activities Center.
  • Camp provides: McCallie Lacrosse Camp Tee-shirt and Pinnie, McCallie Sports Camp Tee-shirt, and a daily ice-cold Gatorade

This camp is designed to help players take their game to the next level, whatever that may be. For beginning players, it is helping them develop their skills and learn the basic team concepts that will prepare them to be a strong player in their elementary or middle school programs. For intermediate players, it is helping them gain confidence in their abilities and learn to play more instinctually so they can become leaders on their teams. And for the advanced players, it is evaluating their game and helping them learn to maximize their strengths so they can be the most effective players that they can be. Throughout camp, we drill the fundamentals and challenge the guys to take the next step in their development, we play small-sided games to teach strategic

  • Final Day Pickup on FRIDAY will be in Spears Stadium after the final games. Parents are encouraged to come watch.
    • Beginner Final: 2:00-2:45
    • Intermediate Final: 3:00-3:45
    • Prize Drawing: 3:50-4:00
    • Advanced Final: 4:15-5:00

  • The 7-to-1 camper/staff ratio allows for personalized attention to each camper.
  • Camps are designed for beginning and experienced lacrosse players. The experience level of each player is most useful in determining the appropriate week of camp.
  • All participants will receive a reversible tank top and a lacrosse ball.  Campers swim in the McCallie “Lake” during camp and have lunch in Alumni Hall. Boarding and Extended Day campers will also be provided dinner.
  • All lacrosse campers must have their own stick or purchase one at registration. Lacrosse equipment will also be available for purchase at camp.

About the Director

Eamon Thornton

Head Lacrosse Coach, English Teacher, and Dorm Advisor

Coach Thornton is starting his fourth year as the head coach at McCallie after leading the team to a TN DII-AAA State Championship in 2022. Thornton graduated from McCallie in 2002, having played both football and lacrosse, and went on to play lacrosse at Hampden-Sydney College where he earned DIII Academic All-American and graduated in 2006 with a double major in English and Philosophy. Thornton coached in England, Baltimore, and Atlanta before returning to the Ridge in 2011. In that time, he has coached lacrosse, football, and even wrestling for a season at all three levels, middle school, JV, and varsity. In addition, he teaches English in the high school and serves as a dorm faculty member in North Hutch. Thornton lives on campus with his wife and three children, Luke (9), Adelyn (6), and Noah (3), and their Aussie Shepard Joey. For fun, Thornton and his family love to travel, hike, play sports, and play on campus with the big boys.

All McCallie Summer Camps begin at 9:00 am with Early Drop Off between 8:00 am and 9:00 am for no extra charge. No campers should ever be dropped off before 8:00 am or picked up after 5:00 pm.  

McCallie Day Camps Cancellation Policy and Refunds

All McCallie Day Camps require a non-refundable $25 registration fee. 

Your credit card on file will be charged to your camp balance on March 1st.  After March 1st camp tuition must be paid in full when registering.

June 1st:  No refunds after June 1st except for documented medical reasons, which will have a $25 non-refundable fee.)

Please let us know if your plans change and your child will not be attending camp so we can give the spot to another child.
