About the Director

Eamon Thornton

Head Lacrosse Coach, English Teacher, and Dorm Advisor

Coach Thornton is starting his fourth year as the head coach at McCallie after leading the team to a TN DII-AAA State Championship in 2022. Thornton graduated from McCallie in 2002, having played both football and lacrosse, and went on to play lacrosse at Hampden-Sydney College where he earned DIII Academic All-American and graduated in 2006 with a double major in English and Philosophy. Thornton coached in England, Baltimore, and Atlanta before returning to the Ridge in 2011. In that time, he has coached lacrosse, football, and even wrestling for a season at all three levels, middle school, JV, and varsity. In addition, he teaches English in the high school and serves as a dorm faculty member in North Hutch. Thornton lives on campus with his wife and three children, Luke (9), Adelyn (6), and Noah (2), and their Aussie Shepard Joey. For fun, Thornton and his family love to travel, hike, play sports, and play on campus with the big boys.
