Space and Rocket Engineering

Led by previous SpaceX engineer turned Rocket Team Coach and STEM educator Andrew Voss, students will design, build, test, and launch their own model rockets while learning the fundamental first principles of science, math, and engineering that allow students and their rockets to reach new heights.

Students will learn to apply tools like 3D printing, computer-aided design, computer coding and analysis, and simple machine shop tools to their rockets and be able to add these skills to their own toolbox, allowing them to standout amidst their peers as they confidently take more projects over the rest of their academic journey.

Additional Activity Options: hikes, swimming/kayaking/paddle-boarding (water sports), stargazing, rock climbing, bouldering, and a movie night.

This is a great opportunity to start building a network of exceptional thinkers, to stand out to highly selective employers and colleges, and to determine if engineering is your passion.

We are looking for ambitious, gifted, driven, motivated students with a passion for building, making, and tinkering who want to level up their skills.

Meet the Director

Andrew Voss was an engineer at SpaceX for 4 years but left in 2020 to pursue his vision to transform education, a vision now embodied in his education startup, Tiger Team. His mission is to bridge the gap between the unfettered push for STEM education and the collective longing for character and relational development, by creating educational experiences that cultivate the character traits fundamental to success in both personal and professional adult life, focusing on courage, collaboration, and creativity. On Tiger Teams students work to complete difficult missions through designing, building, and launching a product (often a rocket), together. Andrew leads a Tiger Team after school year round on campus with McCallie students.
