Dear McCallie Camp Families,

We hope all of you are having a good spring and are staying safe in this time of COVID-19. We are writing to you today to update you on the status of McCallie’s Summer Camps.

Our hope is to begin Summer Camps on campus on June 22. This is the earliest that we will be able to hold camps this summer and may change depending on the circumstances. We are closely monitoring and following the advice of local, state, and national health agencies, as well as guidance provided by the American Camping Association. Some camps that were planned prior to June 22 have been cancelled and others have rescheduled to begin after June 22, as you can see from the list below. This is a difficult decision during these uncertain times, and we know that the cancellation and rescheduling of camps can be a hardship to families.

What are your options? All families may receive a 100 percent refund of deposits and balances paid for cancelled camps or any scheduled camp if you choose not to attend. Refunds will be processed after May 15. Subject to availability, you have the option to “rollover” into a rescheduled session of a camp or choose a different camp and use fees already paid as a credit. Please contact us at 423-493-5658 or email before June 1 to request a refund or transfer to another session.

In addition to the scheduling changes, we are making a number of Important changes in our programs in an effort to keep your children safe. For example:

  • We are limiting the number of campers per session.

  • All camps except McCallie Day Camp and Tennis Camp will be half-day camps. If you paid for a full-day camp which is now a half-day camp you will receive a partial refund.

  • No lunch or free swims will be available, except Day Camp.

  • McCallie First Camp will have free swim, snacks and a 12:30 p.m. pick-up.

  • No after-camp care will be available.  Campers must be picked up at noon. Day Camp will end at 3:30 p.m.

And we will be putting in place many safety measures:

  • The temperature of each child, counselor and staff will be checked each morning. Parents cannot send sick children to camp.

  • If your child has an underlying health condition they should not attend camp.

  • Cloth masks will be worn by counselors and staff during check-in until temperatures are recorded.

  • Handwashing and hand sanitizers will be used throughout the day.

  • There will be no off-campus field trips (Golf Camp may travel to golf courses).

  • Social distancing protocols will be practiced by staff and all campers.

  • Disinfectants will be applied frequently to surfaces and equipment.

  • Efforts will be made to limit sharing of materials and equipment.

  • Most activities will be held outdoors.

  • Use of the dining hall and common areas will be limited.

  • There will be frequent cleaning of common areas.

  • No outside visitors or guests will be allowed onto campus.

  • All absences will be monitored.

  • Campers will be assigned to groups of no more than eight campers and two counselors.

  • Rules for games will be changed to encourage no or low contact.

Below is a list of some of the changes.
